Description
Illustration entitled 'La Danse de Saint Guy' ('St.Guy's Dance'), after a lithograph by de Langlume in 1823. This shows patients suffering from senile chorea, symptomatic of a disease that affects the basal ganglia in the brain. Patients with senile chorea exhibit jerky, involuntary movements of the shoulders, hips and face. Senile chorea is closely related to Sydenham's Chorea (commonly known as St.Vitus' Dance). Unlike the latter, senile chorea is not usually accompanied by dementia. This illustration first appeared in l'Album Comique de Pathologie Pittoresque"."
